Digital Twin Concept

Create a digital twin as an E2E real-time, virtual image of the Hub FRA based on joint data. The scope of phase 1 is to align the joint approach, identify relevant existing projects, initiatives and gaps within LHG and Fraport, cluster the portfolio, and collect external benchmarks from potential technology partners; focusing on transfer & local passengers, baggage, and apron.
The Digital Twin concept has the potential to revolutionize operations at Frankfurt Airport. A Digital Twin is a dynamic, virtual replication of physical assets, processes, and systems, enabling real-time monitoring and steering. At Frankfurt Airport, this technology is leveraged to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and passenger experience.
By creating a digital representation of the airport’s infrastructure, including runways, terminals, and even individual aircraft, operators can simulate what-if scenarios and predict outcomes. This proactive approach allows for optimized allocation of gates and positions, effective resource management, reduced waiting times for passengers, and efficient transfer connection management.

Moreover, the Digital Twin aids in optimizing passenger flow. By tracking real-time data on passenger movements, airport management can identify bottlenecks and streamline processes, significantly reducing waiting times in border control and security checks and enhancing overall traveler satisfaction. This technology also extends to retail and lounge areas, where the management can allocate the required staffing, providing a customer-centric experience for the passengers.
In essence, the Digital Twin concept at Frankfurt Airport represents a significant leap towards a more efficient, safe, and passenger-friendly aviation environment. It exemplifies how cutting-edge technology can transform traditional operations, setting a new standard for airports worldwide.
